Vaccinations

How vaccines work, when to have them and where to get them

This guide explains the vaccines offered in Scotland, when they are given and where to get them. For routine vaccinations your local health board will invite you when you become eligible — you do not usually need to contact your GP to arrange routine immunisations.

Overview

Different vaccines are given at different ages to protect you and your child. Find out when these vaccinations are offered and where they will be given on NHS Inform.

Proof of vaccination and app

If you are 12+ use the NHS Scotland COVID Status app to prove your vaccination record. You can also upload records from outside Scotland.

Travel vaccinations

Travel health and vaccinations are arranged via your regional NHS health board rather than the practice. Arrange a travel health risk assessment 6–8 weeks before travel.

Update your vaccination record

If you had COVID‑19 vaccinations outside Scotland you can upload official proof to your Scottish vaccination record to show full travel status.

Local health board information

Your local health board will provide details of clinics, drop‑in or mobile vaccination services in your area.
