Appointments

How to request help from Parkgrove Medical Centre

We offer telephone and face-to-face appointments; online requests are coming soon. Patients are prioritised by clinical need, not request order — please give enough information when you contact us.

How to request an appointment

1

Online requests (coming soon)

Online appointment requests are not yet available. To request an appointment now, please call our surgery on the number below and our team will assist you.

2

Phone the surgery

Call us on 0131 312 6600. Our phone lines are open Monday to Friday, 8am–6pm.

Our reception team may ask some questions about your concern—this helps us direct you to the right clinician.

3

In an emergency

Call 999 immediately for life-threatening emergencies such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding, or stroke symptoms.

When the surgery is closed, call NHS 24 on 111 for urgent medical advice and out-of-hours care.

Types of appointment

Same-day appointments
We primarily offer same-day appointments for all GP consultations. Contact us as early as possible to request an appointment. Same-day appointments are face-to-face.
Urgent telephone appointments
If you have an urgent medical need, our clinical team will assess your request and may offer a telephone consultation first to determine the best course of action.
Nurse and healthcare assistant appointments
Our nursing team can help with blood tests, cervical screening, and chronic disease reviews (diabetes, asthma, COPD). Please book by phone for now — online booking is coming soon.
Home visits
Home visits are available for patients who are housebound or too unwell to attend the surgery. Please contact us as early in the day as possible if you need a home visit, and provide as much detail as you can about the situation.

Changing or cancelling your appointment

If you can no longer attend your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible. You can cancel or rearrange by:

  • Calling us on 0131 312 6600
  • Using our online cancellation form (coming soon)
  • Replying to your appointment reminder text message, if you received one

Fit notes (sick notes)

When do you need a fit note?

  • First 7 calendar days: You can self-certify your absence from work. Your employer may ask you to complete a self-certification form (SC2), but you do not need a note from your GP.
  • After 7 days: If you're still unwell, you may need a fit note from a GP. You can request one by contacting reception (online form coming soon).
  • Important: GPs can only issue fit notes when it is clinically appropriate. We cannot backdate fit notes or issue them for conditions we have not assessed.

Helping us help you

We want to provide the best possible care to all our patients. Here are a few ways you can help us do that:

Be on time

Please arrive a few minutes early. If you're running late, let us know—we may need to reschedule.

One main concern

Appointments are typically 10 minutes. If you have multiple issues, please book a longer appointment or a follow-up.

Respect for all

Our staff are here to help. We ask that all patients treat our team and other patients with courtesy and respect.
